Thrift Shop Theme Song

As hard as you might “want” to hate this song, if you’re like me, you start rocking out as soon as you hear the horns. I can’t tell you how often I can be found around the house singing about poppin’ tags. The video for Macklemore & Ryan’s Thrift Shop featuring Wanz is pretty funny too. I have to say that while I wholeheartedly approve of the awesome finds at the thrift shop, I hate when it gets so much media attention. Back when Jewel was cool (am I dating myself?), those of us who made our fashion statements using secondhand scores found ourselves out of luck with the prices jacked up because she’d made vintage cool. The wedding dress I’d been planning to re-purpose into a Molly Ringwald-esque cocktail dress suddenly went from $4 to $40 to my dismay.

On the other hand, you can’t help but love someone with the courage to say what we’ve all known for so long, “That’s $50 for a t-shirt”. There’s an art to fearlessly rocking someone’s great-grandma’s old fur.  To those real heroes of thrift store shopping;  To you who is well versed in the Guerilla warfare of Goodwill restock days; To you who knows how to make wide tab collar jackets look contemporary; To the boy in brocade bellbottoms; The girl in green taffetta….this video is for you. And I will say- “This is f*cking awe-some”!
