YSL (Saint Laurent Music Project)

Fashion and music go together, they say. Nothing proves that more than this collaboration between musicians and fashion powerhouse, YSL for their upcoming Saint Laurent Music Project.

Images of shock-rocker, Marilyn Manson set the music and fashion world abuzz when it was shown accompanying a YSL (now referred to as Saint Laurent) Paris ad campaign. Done in black and white, Manson wears his signature white face, black lipstick, piercing contacts, slick hair and of course, a glossy leather jacket.

The image was taken by the label’s current creative director, Hedi Slimane. After recently settling as the brand’s new director, he is injecting some long lost vitality with his ode to some of the best 90s music “revolutionaries.” Musicians like electronic duo, Daft Punk; troubled iconic rock princess, Courtney Love; Beck Hansen, Christopher Owens, Ariel Pink and Sonic Youth’s Kim Gordon all styled themselves and posed for the black and white images.

Although plenty of fashion watchers are divided over Slimane’s bold steps for YSL or Saint Laurent (depending on where your allegiance is) there’s no doubt he has created classy images that has once again intertwined music and fashion perfectly.
