Face Off Season 5 Episode 12

It is time for Face Off again and this week is the last spotlight challenge before the finale. The artists do not have it easy because they must create a human bird hybrid. Each artist picks a bird that they must create as their hybrid and many of the artists are choosing to go very big and hope that they don’t go home.

Things seem to be going pretty well through day one and up to day two. It is day two when some things start to go a little wrong for some of the artists. Miranda does not seem to be able to pull herself away from her sculpt when she knows she should be in the mould room. Meanwhile Roy’s wing span core falls and he is almost certain that the whole thing has just been ruined without time to fully redo it. Luckily when he gets it turned over the damage seems to be workable for him. You have to admire the fact that despite the downsides Roy refuses to give up and keeps working to make his make-up work.

Last looks is as it usually is very frantic with everyone running low on time this week and feeling like they have not gotten things as done as they want to be done. Roy is feeling very not confident and Miranda looks almost as frantic as she did last week when she made probably one of the worst make ups that have been seen on the show. So what happened on stage? Overall from a faraway look the birds all seemed to turn out pretty good, I found to my unskilled eye that Roy was visually the most appealing with the colors.

So what did the judges think? Overall they liked most of the work they saw, they did not like Laura’s feather suit for her character, Miranda’s lack of overall work seemed to confuse them too, and Roy’s “squiggle” lines. However there was a lot they did like, Tate seemed to be sitting pretty well with choices overall, Miranda’s sculpt work was called beautiful and they love Roy’s fabricating skills. So what did the judges say? Tate was the challenge winner and the first person moving on to the finale and in the end it was Miranda who did not make it to the finale with Laura and Roy joining Tate. So do you think the judges made the right choice?
