Black Tape For A Blue Girl Kickstarter

Sam Rosenthal of Projekt Records has a Kickstarter pledging now for collectible re-release of his popular 1996 Remnants album. Black Tape For A Blue Girl is one of the the longest-running Gothic bands in the world and really helped set the standard for what evocative symphonic goth music should be. Stop by the Black Tape For A Blue Girl “Remnants…” 2-LP vinyl edition Kickstarter and watch the video and you can pledge for some really cool and collectible rewards.

“Remnants of a Deeper Purity” turns 18 with a deluxe 2-LP swirled vinyl edition. Some rewards have a signed holiday card for you.

People often ask if I am going to put out something from Black tape for a blue girl on vinyl. In fact, there was vinyl years ago for the first two albums. But that was a different era, and now it’s time for us to put out vinyl again. When I say “us,” I mean you and me; because together, we can make Remnants of a deeper purity exist on vinyl. It’s your support through the pledges (to the right) that will raise the money so this project can happen.

Blacktape’s 1996 Remnants album is the best seller for the band; and not only that, recently on Facebook the fans voted it their favorite album. It’s the perfect release to put out on vinyl.

Remnants is a long album (77:10 minutes); it’s going to be a double-lp. And if you ask me, the only way to go is deluxe! 140-gram marbled red & clear swirled vinyl, a copy of the original 9-track album on CD in a paper sleeve, and a luxurious 8 page album-sized booklet. And everyone who picks a premium that includes the vinyl gets their name in the booklet!

Keep in mind that the Kickstarter only works when we hit our $7000 goal. So it’s your support, and spreading the word, that is going to get the album funded.
“Like Dead Can Dance, black tape for a blue girl dramatically flirts with symphonic decay.” – The Philadelphia City Paper

And Holiday Cards! That’s right, it’s that time of the year. So indulge yourself, or your loved one, with this beautiful and tactile treasure. At many of the pledge levels I’m going to write you out a holiday card that should show up right before Xmas; my way of saying ‘thanks’ for believing in Black Tape For A Blue Girl and getting involved.

(Outside of the USA, your card will probably NOT arrive in time for Xmas, unless Santa is working extra hard!)

The music business has changed drastically in the 17 years since the release of Remnants. The way I see it, (for underground artists) the music business is now a patronage system. Instead of Kings supporting the arts, you – the fans – are the patrons of the art you love. I have created three Kickstarters – all of which have funded – and I am amazed and thankful to have fans like you who care enough about what I do to support my art.

Back in 1996 when I recorded Remnants with Oscar, Lucian, Vicki and Mera, we had no idea the album would touch so many people and have such a lasting impact. It feels really great to be here, almost 18 years later, getting ready to celebrate Remnants again.

Thanks so much for your help in that.
Why should I get on board?

This vinyl release will only fund if we make our $7000 goal. Getting involved at any pledge level increases the chance this release becomes reality.
You might wonder why I am asking for $7000

Simply put, $7000 is the minimum this release is going to cost! The vinyl pressing + jacket is $4155 at Furnace MFG. The 8 page booklet is $1700. The mastering is $350 (and there’s a pledge level for that one special person who wants to sponsor the mastering). Pressing the CD to include in the package is $400. Plus the cost of shipping the vinyl and booklet from the plant to me, and the shipping of the prizes to you, and the 5% that Kickstarter takes, and the 3-5% that Amazon takes to process your card, and the… and the…. It all adds up, doesn’t it ?

$350 for Mastering? Really?

Yes. Talented people deserve to be paid for their quality work. Last year, Mannequin Records in Italy released my Tanzmusik album on vinyl (there are still a few copies left, here). Mannequin connected me with Anders Peterson at GS Mastering & Post (www.ghostsounds.net). Anders did such a fabulous job preparing the Tanzmusik files for the vinyl pressing, that I knew I had to have him on this job. I want to get you the best sonic experience of Remnants of a Deeper Purity.

$1700 for a booklet? Really?!

Yes. It’s an 8-page full-color booklet that is 12″ square. That’s quite a lot of paper to cover with luscious Remnants-goodness; it’s expensive to print! We gotta go deluxe with this, if we’re going to do it at all. Right? : ) And don’t forget that along with the lyrics and the photos, for those of you who buy a Vinyl package, there’ll be your name listed in there as well… Sweet!
Rewards

There are a lot of options in the rewards section to your right. Holiday cards, download copies, additional copies for your friend. Find the pledge level that fits your budget, and your love for the band.
