Paula Cheng

I know we saw Paula Cheng exhibiting at the WWDMagic fashion trade show. I think she was in the emerging designers showcase in the Tents at Project, but I can’t seem to find a pic of her booth. I’m including a photo of the Tents, so you can see that they were white and airy and swanky and not like camping or anything, although there were food trucks outside.

Anyway, photos for her forthcoming collection are unavailable, but her Beast Within collection is really interesting. Somehow, she manages to take light-colored yarn and turn it into something couture and dark and spooky and special. Her silhouettes are unique and creative and Paula Cheng clothing even seems like it would be oddly comfortable to wear. I’m pretty sure there were some designs in black at Magic as well.

Paula Cheng is a New-York based fashion designer and entrepreneur.

Paula is a graduate of the inaugural class of the Fashion Design and Society MFA program at Parsons the New School for Design, where she specialized in research-based designs, deconstructive knitwear and complex free-form draping.. During her tenure at the MA program, she was the winner of the Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty competition, and a finalist at the Feel the Yarn Competition in Florence. Her recent work has been featured in the past in Wallpaper, Bullett, and Vogue Italia Magazines for two consecutive years in as an emerging young designer. Lanificio Dell’Olivo, an Italian luxury yarn company, provided exclusive sponsorship for her final MFA graduate collection, of which was featured on Womenswear Daily, Style.com and The New York Times in September 2012. With professional and institutional experience in Asia, United States and Europe, Cheng’s design style is cosmopolitan, conceptual and always progressing.
