I randomly stumbled on this headband, made of insects, and thought, well there’s an idea. Etsy seller Our Lavender Lady mainly makes fake plugs (don’t get me started) but this little number really steals the show. I’d love to see some variations on this with other animals, maybe some army men or even dinosaurs.

Beautiful golden insect headband. Perfect statement piece for a non-traditional wedding, a stylish student, or offbeat artist. A truly lovely, disturbingly beautiful Gothic hair accessory.

I have a weakness for amazing leather jackets. Have we talked about this before? You should see my closet. Actually, you shouldn’t as it’s just a pile of black on the floor. I really need to do something about that.

JulyS has a great Etsy shop with many custom jackets and a few dresses and skirts. This Jet Black Leather Coat is by far my favorite and I will seriously consider purchasing it, once it gets cold again. I mean, who doesn’t like asymmetrical zippers. WHO!?

This coat is made of smooth man-made faux deer learther with plush fur lining and a peticoat design. Look closely at the great shoulder design. No effort was spared in creating wonderful details on this coat. Zipper closure and pockets in front. It can be worn to keep you warm on that special night on the town or as your daily jacket. I really like this subtle spooky ponytail accessory from JanesGiftStore Handmade Jewelry that I just found over on Etsy. I’m not sure what it’s like to attach fresh new hair bands in, but I suspect it’s pretty easy. I do like to pull my hair back in a ponytail when I’m at the gym and I think this would be a fun addition to the look. I know, again with the comic book villain accessories, what can you do? I like what I like. They also offer the same design in black or
bronze, although I think the black would get lost in my dark hair and the skull is maybe a little too spooky for the copper/bronze heavy Steampunk look. It’s super affordable too, at just $3.99.

Beastwares is a new company from San Francisco and is bringing a bit more rock n’ roll to the spandex legging world. Designer and artist Phoenix Zoellick’s Glitter Britches offer a flared cut, and you guessed it, fabulous glitter prints in all colors. Using Kickstarter to launch her company, the store is now live and ready to roll. I’m waiting on some Space Oddities that I cannot wait to rock.

SNAG sounds like an organization of Bond villains, but they actually write about the artistry of all sorts of jewelry materials, including gold of course, and also damascus steel, mastodon fossil, moldavite, emeralds, and more. Metalsmith now has a digital format as well and they have a free sample of the digital version online now. The sample issue includes an insightful article on the hand as inspiration by an author who died. Now that’s goth.

Rebecca Barton is a talented artist who works in metal. She primarily depicts plants in her work, but with a very industrial twist.

Having been raised in a highly industrialized area, I can identify with the ephemeral nature of plant life. Plants are both fragile and precious. As a way to explain a state of being, plants have become the focus of my investigations and detailed depictions. Fusing realistic imagery with metalwork, I use plants as symbols for my emotions and experiences.

I find it natural for my jewelry pieces to have a direct connection to the self and become an extension of the body. The body not only becomes an environment for the plant, but also possesses a life and vulnerability that become a part of the work. We have all experienced feelings of fragility and of being uprooted and transplanted. People, like plants, need strong roots in order to survive and flourish, season after season.
