The field this year is well mixed and the range of talent makes promises for us to see some fantastic creatures and hopefully some close calls in the judging room. It is out of the frying pan and right into the fire for our artists on the first foundation challenge when the models come out with huge out of this world wigs and they are tasked with creating an over the top character to go with the wigs. From the quick look we got at many of them I saw a lot of concepts and make ups that were not only strong for the game but could easily be transferred into real life Gothic wear, the favorites of guest artist Tami Lane were Bethany and George with the winner getting immunity being George.

The next morning arriving at a large beautiful castle looking home for their spotlight challenge the artists are informed that the challenge is going to be based on the classic fairy tale beauty and the beast. They are split into teams of two and each team gets to pick one “Bell” who is holding a picture of a castle they are from which will inspire the Beast they must make.

For once everything seems to be going well and smooth in the work room, teams are getting things done and seem to have plenty of time. That is until Chloe goes to check on Rashaad and finds there is no burlap under the mold he is working on which means the only way to get into it is to crack it in half. Thankfully with team work they manage to get it off without too much damage. While Cat & Daniel are not doing much team work because she insists Daniel only cares about what he is doing, ah drama in the work room. Meanwhile Tess & Niko forgot to pour foam latex in the face piece mold so they do not have a face for their beast.

When they arrive for judging everyone is informed there is a new twist being added to the show. The judges have the ability to issue a onetime special immunity. An artist who has a tough week and would have otherwise been eliminated will be allowed to stay if the judges choose. The overall looks are pretty good for first week and you can see where the talent is, some need to bring a little more though. The judge’s favorites were Daran, Graham, & George, and Rashaad & Chloe while the bottom looks were Matt & Margaret, and Tyler & Bethany. The winner of the night was Chole while it was Margaret who was sent home. So do you think the judges got it right this week?
