The creative metalsmith artists over at SNAG (the Society of North American Goldsmiths) which we previously wrote up, just released their annual special issue of Metalsmith Magazine. This year’s special issue is guest edited by Valerie Steele, which sounds about as much like a made up movie villain name as SNAG, and is all about the sinister pleasures of Goth. But, Dr. Steel is far from a made up character, she’s actually the Director and Chief Curator of The Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology (MFIT) and has curated over 20 fashion exhibitions, including Gothic: Dark Glamour, The Corset: Fashioning the Body, and the intriguing Love & War: The Weaponized Woman. It sounds like our suspicions about a Bond villain connection maybe aren’t so far off after all.
This darkly beautiful issue was made available yesterday at Qmags.com/ and has a special focus on the ‘Gothic: Sinister Pleasures’ exhibition in print, with special coordinated shows scheduled for Chicago and Memphis later this year. I would love to be able to go enjoy the exhibitions, but just in case I can’t make it, I’m really happy to have the option to enjoy this special issue in print or digital download. With over twenty talented artists featured, there is plenty of eye candy to enjoy. You can enjoy a free sample of a previous issue here.
